Application for Membership

Idaho County Light & Power (ICL&P) was founded in 1938 and is a member owned, not-for-profit, electric distribution cooperative that serves electricity to members in two counties (Idaho and Lewis) in Idaho. ICL&P strives to uphold a commitment to service excellence while delivering safe, affordable and reliable electricity to its members.

What is a cooperative?

Cooperatives differ from other businesses in that they are owned by their user-members and profits are returned to members according to usage. Providing electric service as a cooperative differs from investor-owned and municipal electric utilities, because cooperatives operate for the benefit of owner-members, rather than investors.

Historically, cooperatives were established and entrusted to find solutions for electrical and telephone service, farming, banking, housing, childcare, healthcare, and food, as well as additional goods and services. According to a 2020 NRECA study, there are more than 900 member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperatives, public power districts and public utility districts in America. Together, we serve 42 million people, in 48 states, and power56% of the nations landmass.

Membership is open to any person or organization within ICL&P's defined service area. If you are new to the area and unsure who your power provider is, we recommend looking at your electric meter, as service areas often overlap with other local utilities. If your meter says "Idaho County Light & Power" on the face plate, you will need to contact our office to start service.

What does it take to be a member?

  1. A $5.00 membership

  2. A membership card signed and your application for service completed.

  3. Both items must be returned to our office within 10 days from the date service was transferred or connected in your name.

In addition, a new member is required to provide one of the following (transfers only):

  1. A $150.00 deposit or,

  2. A good credit reference from your last power supplier.

Please note: The above items must be in our office within 10 days from the date service was put into your name or, service will be disconnected.
